Weapons
Knife
Everyone gets a knife and is used well in only two situations I can think of, the first is that you can kill people with one thrust of the knife if you are behind them so if you can sneak up on people from behind, instead of wasting ammo switch to knife and stab them, this works well on snipers and people manning MG42s as they are not moving. The second is if you are underwater and have no other weapons that will work underwater.
This weapon can be used by any class.
Pistols
The allied Colt 45 and the Axis Luger seem to be almost identical in firing and are very accurate so dont forget about them if you run out of ammo, although they are outclassed by the sub machine guns they are a worthy backup and can be fired quickly if you tap fire.
Sub Machine Guns
The Axis MP40 and the allied Thompson are also very similar although the MP40 can carry 32 bullets in a clip and the Thompson only 30. They are the most used weapons in RTCW online as they are quite powerful, reasonably accurate and any class can have them. They can be used very effectively in medium range shooting combined with strafing and ducking in and out of cover. Axis medics and engineers get an MP40 and the allied equivalents get a Thompson. There is one more SMG and that is the silenced Sten gun, which in the singleplayer game is used in sneaky missions to avoid the enemys attention as they are silent (almost), but real people can hear them and they heat up after 10 shots and you have to wait for it to cool down, this weapon is the most accurate SMG and is not useless as many people think, you can use it as a long range weapon to pick off people standing about as when you are crouched the 10 shots you let off all hit the same spot.
Used by anyone (medics and engineers dont have a choice though) soldiers and lieutenants can choose any of them.
MG42 machine gun
This is the name for the machine guns that dont move and are usually positioned next to objectives as a defence, anyone can use these and they have unlimited ammo, but people with modems cannot use these very effectively as there is a delay in the moving of the gun so people with other internet connections use these better.
Mauser
The sniper rifle of RTCW online, the choice for long range combat and best used with partial cover (ducking behind crates). The person people most hate is the sniper and thats why it is fun to be a sniper. The Mauser has a very long range scope that can be zoomed in or out, it takes two shots anywhere on the body to kill someone with a Mauser and one shot in the head, but medics are quite hard to kill with this as by the time you have brought the aim down again (as this guns aim flies upward after each shot from recoil) the medic has healed himself a bit and so your second shot doesnt usually kill him and it takes three shots (but by that time he/she has probably found cover).

Panzerfaust
The most powerful weapon in the game, kills anyone in the blast radius and hurts anyone nearby, think a powerful grenade combined with a sniper rifle without a scope.
This is the only weapon where the soldier power bar comes into play as you can only fire it once you have a full bar.
Used only by soldiers.
Venom Gun
The fastest firing gun in the game, this beast has to wind up before firing and then releases over 50 bullets in seconds before heating up. This weapon is best used when defending objectives like the AA gun in the depot level, find an area where the enemy cant manoeuvre very much like a doorway and keep tapping the fire button to keep spinning the barrel so you have less wind up time then when someone appears fire and they will be turned into hamburger meat.

Flamethrower
The portable cooker, this weapon produces a stream of fire that cooks people who get caught in it, the effect is the person will take a lot of damage as his skin burns and their screen will be covered in flames making them almost blind. On teamkill servers you have to be careful about using this as anyone who touches the flame takes at least 40 damage.
Used only by soldiers.
NOTE: Soldiers carrying a Panzerfaust, Venom Gun or a Flamethrower move slower when these weapons are equipped so switch to pistol when moving in an area where there probably will be no enemies.
Grenades
Axis have stick grenades that can be thrown further and Allies have slightly more powerful pineapple grenades, but generally there is no difference. Very handy for flushing out people in hiding and for killing people in confined spaces like a small room, will kill anyone very near the grenade and will hurt people nearby.
Used by anyone. Medics have 1 grenade, soldiers have 4, engineers have 8 and lieutenants have 1 but can give themselves more from ammo packs.
Class Abilities
Medics
These handy people can revive fallen comrades and give out health packs, people who have been killed can be brought back by medics using syringes and they then have half health. And medics can give people health packs but it drains their power bar. (4 packs each with 20 health for a full bar) Medics start with the least ammo only having one clip and no other ammo (32 MP40 30 Thompson) so give medics ammo packs when they spawn so when you die they can kill the weakened enemy that killed you and revive you.
Engineers
These guys have dynamite and are the only people that can destroy objectives and disarm the enemys dynamite. Place dynamite and it will glow yellow, then get out your pliers and arm it, then it will glow red and explode in 30 seconds, you can disarm other peoples dynamite with your pliers too. (Pliers can also be used to repair destroyed MG42s)
Engineers have an SMG and one spare clip.
Soldiers
These people are the only people that can use the big guns and are best used as an escort for engineers and for defending objectives, they can use any weapon and have 2 spare clips with SMGs (if you are foolish enough to have an SMG when you are a soldier, be a lieutenant if you want to use an SMG)
Soldiers have 5 Panzerfaust rockets, 500 Venom Gun ammo, 200 Flamethrower and 20 Mauser.
Lieutenants
This class can do a lot, they can give out ammo packs, they can throw airstrike markers which then results in a line of explosions, they can use binoculars (hold down B by default) and click to call in artillery fire. All these things drain the power bar, an ammo pack needs ¼ of the bar, an airstrike needs half the bar but will drain it completely and the artillery needs a full bar.
Give different classes different amounts of ammo, give engineers 2 packs but give medics 3 packs.
For soldiers, it depends on what weapon they are carrying, give someone with a Venom 3 packs (to bring him to full ammo) and give someone with a Mauser 2 packs, but dont give any packs to Panzerfaust or Flamethrower soldiers ON SPAWN as they have full ammo then.
And finally, play as a team! A team of mixed classes works well especially if you all stick together. Lieutenants can supply ammo to people, Medics can heal and revive people, Engineers can win the game for people and Soldiers can escort the engineer to the objective and just kill people who get in the way. A mixed team that work together is MUCH better than a team of people that dont play as a team and get killed because they are alone because they ont stick together as a team. Also, choose the right class and weapon and tactics for the situation, if you have been attacking as an engineer but the map changes and the level you are on is one where you defend, becoming a lieutenant might be a better choice.
